Washing and Caring for Baby Clothes

Washing and Caring for Baby Clothes

Washing and caring for baby clothes can be a never ending chore between spit up, drooling, food, burping and poo. It can go on and on. Clothing isn’t cheap either, even for a baby. Here are some tips to make your baby clothing last longer.

Bibs

Bibs are your best friend. Wearing a bib is adorable and saves the clothes from what is about to come. This can keep food and more off of the clothes and also help prevent stains. Plus bibs are quicker and easier to change if getting dirty.

Burp Towels

Store burp towels around the house. The inevitable is that babies will spit up, drool, and burp. Having burp towels stashed in different rooms can mean that one is always ready for use.

Diapers

Diaper explosions, no one wants them to happen but unfortunately it does. Do your best to clean up what you can. After that, let the rest soak in a solution of hot water and laundry detergent, and wash according to the care instruction label.

Clean it Up Quick

When messes happen don’t let it sit in. Quickly do what you can to treat a stain soon. The longer the stain sits into the clothes the more challenging it can be to clean it. Be sure to follow any instructions on the care label for washing and drying. If you still notice the stain on the baby clothes after washing, do not place it in the dryer. The heat from the dryer can set the stain and make it permanent in the clothing.

Laundry Detergent

Detergents are a personal preference. There are natural, fragrance-free and dye-free detergents. If you have questions on which detergent is right for your baby, check with your pediatrician.
